ESSENTIAL ELIGIBILITY

There are no prerequisites for this course except a desire to learn and grow. We will teach you the skills of backpacking and essential backcountry skills such as gourmet cooking and using the bathroom in the wilderness.

With that, we welcome men of all skill levels whether you are a beginner backpacker or a well-seasoned outdoor enthusiast. The primary focus is encountering God in the wilderness.

Skill Level
Beginner
Physical Ability
  • Carry a 35-40 lb backpack, hiking 4-8 miles a day on and off trail, with elevation changes of up to 3,000 ft.
  • Hike and camp at elevations of 8,000 ft. and up
  • Long days, often up at 6am and in bed at 9pm

We provide a training plan to help you be physically prepared for your trip so you can succeed and have the most fun.

Arrival
You will meet your leaders and team at SROM headquarters in Laramie, WY. The afternoon will start with introductions and an orientation time. You’ll then be issued gear and will learn how to pack your bag. Dinner will be provided. You may sleep at the SROM building that night or book a local accommodation. If you do book a local accommodation, we will not be able to provide rides to and from that night and the next morning. You will head out early the next morning with your team and drive to the trailhead.
On the Trip

You will spend 5 days backpacking in the epic Wind River Range. There you will see towering peaks, pristine alpine lakes and streams, and incredible starlit skies in some of the finest wilderness areas in North America. We will teach you the technical outdoor skills to thrive in the mountains, learning things such as campsite selection, route finding, and navigation.

Each day will have a spiritual theme with group time in the evenings that often includes worship, teaching, and discussion. Your leaders will model for you what it means to be a leader of the day (LOD) and then you will get a chance to be a leader of the day for at least one of the days on course. You will also get an extended time to reflect and spend time alone with God on a solo. The lessons will build upon each other, culminating with your final peak attempt.

Whether you are an expert in the mountains or a novice, this will be an unforgettable time with fellow brother's in Christ, creating memories that will last a life-time.
