Frequently asked questions
ARRIVAL
The afternoon will start with introductions and an orientation time. You’ll then be issued gear and will learn how to pack your bag. Dinner will be provided. You may sleep at the SROM building that night or book a local accommodation. If you do book a local accommodation, we will not be able to provide rides to and from that night and the next morning. You will leave early the next morning and drive ~ 9 hours to the trailhead.
Backpacking
Spend 6 days backpacking in the vibrantly diverse Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument. There you will encounter towering sandstone walls, tread the ever changing path of the Escalante River, observe unique riparian ecosystems, and be awestruck by starlit skies in some of the finest wilderness areas in North America.
We will teach you the skills to live in the wilderness, such as campsite selection, navigation, backcountry cooking, and going to the bathroom in the outdoors!
Your instructors will also model for you what it looks like to lead the group, and then you will get the chance to be a leader one day as well.
Each day will have a spiritual theme with family time in the evenings that often includes a devotional, discussion, and worship.
